Esther 'Tokyo' Bello is an interdisciplinary artist and researcher who works with systems of knowledge generation at the intersection of non-Western epistemologies, data practices, and Artificial Intelligence. She is currently a PhD candidate in Arts and Computational Technology at Goldsmiths, University of London, where she is developing Reversioning — a creative practice-based methodology informed by the Yoruba Ifá Divination System and the Altè community in Lagos, Nigeria, with the primary outputs being bespoke datasets and bodies of artwork generated through community engagement. Her practice spans abstract painting, filmmaking, and dataset creation, integrating cutting edge technologies into traditional art practices.
Bello holds an MSc in Creative Technology and a BSc in Information Technology and Business Information Systems from Middlesex University, London.
She was an artist-in-residence at the Anthropic and Tate Modern’s Tech, Tea + Exchange program (2025), culminating in a group exhibition in the gallery.
Bello lives and works in London.
